You and the Holy Spirit
The subject of the Holy Spirit is mysterious to many Christians. Some may feel that the Holy Spirit has no impact on their lives. Perhaps this is because the Holy Spirit is not really understood. How does the Holy Spirit impact your life and mine?
THE HOLY SPIRIT IS DIVINE
God has a big impact on our lives every day. The Father, Son, and Holy Spirit all share the Divine Nature that is God. When we worship God we worship the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit. Nothing would be accomplished without the united effort of all three who are God, from the creation of the world to our salvation.
THE HOLY SPIRIT REVEALED ALL TRUTH
After Jesus ascended to heaven, He sent the Holy Spirit to guide the apostles “into all truth” (John 16:13). They preached and wrote this truth “as the Spirit gave them utterance” (Acts 2:4; 1 Cor. 2:12-13). In Old Testament times, “holy men of God spoke as they were moved by the Holy Spirit” (2 Pet. 1:21). Every time we read our Bibles, we are reading what the Holy Spirit revealed from the mind of God. All truth has been revealed for us today!
THE HOLY SPIRIT CAME WHEN THE CHURCH BEGAN
The apostles were baptized in the Holy Spirit on the day of Pentecost when the church/kingdom of Christ began (Acts 1:5, 8; 2:1-4). Peter stated in His sermon that they had “received from the Father the promise of the Holy Spirit” (2:33). We can be members of Christ’s church today because the Holy Spirit came!
BAPTIZED IN THE NAME OF THE HOLY SPIRIT
When we become Christians, we are baptized in the name of the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit (Matt. 28:19). The authority and work of the Holy Spirit is united with that of the Father and Son to make possible our salvation from sin.
LED BY THE HOLY SPIRIT
Paul declared, “For as many as are led by the Spirit of God, these are sons of God” (Rom. 8:14). The word of God is the Spirit’s primary means of leading us in the right paths. We should not ignore the powerful influence of the Holy Spirit through the inspired word. By this we learn and practice the truth, and are rebuked and warned when we do not. We need to follow the Spirit’s direction!
SEALED WITH THE HOLY SPIRIT
As Christians, God has given us wonderful blessings. As an example, we are “sealed with the Holy Spirit of promise, who is the guarantee of the inheritance until the redemption of the purchased possession, to the praise of His glory” (Eph. 1:13-14). This speaks of our future resurrection, and the Holy Spirit is the guarantee of our inheritance. What a wonderful promise!
